Amery Woman's Club Projects / Programs
The Amery Beautification Project is supported by a Bridge Marathon held each year in the community. Participation monies collected are used for the flowers down the main street of Amery.
Responsible for picking up trash on the section of County Road F from the Golf course west to South Shore Drive.
Art and Crafts Fair sponsors and organizes the Art and Craft Fair in North Park in June. All facets of this event are the committee’s responsibilities. Proceeds from this event go to our scholarship fund.
Blood Drive organizes two Red Cross blood drives a year in the spring and fall. Persons are needed to call donors and set up appointments, hand out snacks and beverages, registration and provide assistance and direction.
Each year the AWC decides to recognize the work and dedication of our local service groups in the community.
- Helen Mears art contest coordinates the 8th grade contestants and winners of the contest in the spring. The committee also includes various other art contests available to students that are sponsored by the GFWC.
- Member Arts: Featuring AWC member talents and creativity
- Writing Contest: seeks to provide an avenue for GFWC members and community members of all ages to freely express themselves, as well as draw upon their experiences through writing.
The AWC celebrates Dr Seuss’ Birthday with Lien Elementary Second Graders each Spring.
Educational programs offered in partnership with the Clear Lake School District. Expansion into the Amery School District is in the works.
Holiday Stroll candy sales is the activity that is responsible for collecting home-made candy and cookies from the members and selling it at the Amery Holiday Stroll.
Library Gift Cards are greeting cards available at the library. Anyone may take a card and use it to donate to the library in honor of someone or an event.
The AWC supports literacy-based programs to promote learning in a fun and interactive environment. In 2017 the AWC held a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party for all second graders in the Amery School District. Volunteers read and discussed The Lorax and gifted each student a copy of the book. Students were treated to cake after the event.
Membership committee explores ways to inform, retain and recruit members. They also sponsor the new member orientation.
Read to me committee sponsors with the financial support of several other community groups, a gift bag for all new mothers and their infants at the ARMC. The bag includes a board book and various literature on the importance of reading from birth.
Recycling was formed to improve and promote recycling efforts in our community such as making recycling bins more readily accessible and the education of our citizenry. They work with the Amery and Clear Lake schools providing programs for the children to become more aware of the importance of keeping their cities “green”.
The Amery Woman’s Club sponsors 3 scholarships. One is awarded to a female Amery High School Senior and 2 are awarded to female’s that are returning to school. The committee is responsible for reviewing the applications and choosing the recipients.
Collect and preserve the history of AWC and our women volunteers. Compile and maintain a running, recorded history of all events of the organization projects and honors. Establish a historical process for tracking and capturing the activities of AWC
